It is really hard to stay away from the computer these days. As much as I do try and limit the time I spend on one…… I just like it sooo much. I am officially ending my computer hiatus. It was good but I am glad I am back.
Have you ever had the experience of being suddenly awakened in the middle of the night by a loud noise. You get out of bed to see what happened, only to realize maybe it was just a dream. Something similar happened to Jeff and I a few weeks ago. Something really loud woke both of us up one night about 2 am. I forced Jeff out of bed to investigate the situation. He went outside but did not see anything. I told him I thought maybe Landon had just kicked the wall really hard again in his sleep or something to that effect. So we went back to sleep.
The sun came out the next day and we learned the origin of our bump in the night.

As you can see, someone slammed their Toyota into our fence. We know it was a 99 Toyota to be exact because they left behind some of their vehicle.

Punks.

The best part of this stories lies within this picture. You see, after Christmas this year we decided it was time to get a new tree. Our tree had really seen it better days. So I just took it and sat it out on the back porch until I decided what I was going to do with it. But since there are not many trees in Midland I thought it might look nice as a lawn ornament. But in the mean time, I have left it sitting on the back porch.
When Jeff came out to investigate the bump in the night, he could not see the fence around the Christmas tree (or he did not think to look) He just sort of assumed nothing was out there and it was something else.

We decided to burn the fence in our fire pit. Which really is not a pit at all but an area in the backyard that we make fires in on a regular basis and sit around the campfire and roast marshmellow. The landlord calls us pyromaniacs.

Hayden in playing his wood guitar with a peice of broken fence. Such a imaginative mind that boy has.

By the way, as of today, that Christmas tree is still in the back yard.

We took the kids to ride the polar express!

Yes the real polar express!

With Tom Hanks and everything (just kidding on the Tom Hanks part, but the conductor did try to look like Tom and wanted to be called Tom Hanks!)

The train was very loud- It was very scary according to Carley, who kept repeating, “its scary” over and over again.

Riding the Polar express was so much fun. Notice the bandage on Carley’s finger. She had to have two stitches a few days before that. I will go into that later.
They served us hot chocolate and cookies and told us they magically took out all of the calories. And we sang all the songs from the movie and Christmas carols. All the children were encouraged to wear their pajamas. (but I forgot that part)

And when we got to the North Pole, Santa and his Elves got on board and made a visit with all the children. He even gave everyone their very own bell from his sleigh.

Hayden got to dance with an elf named “Marshmellow”

It was lots of fun to ride the polar express.

We had a birthday over the weekend. He picked out a christmas cake from the local bakery for two reasons. Mom was too sick to bake and he wanted one.
but it really goes against what I like to do. Because baking and cooking are my thing. I pride myself on it. But alas, when the boy wants a cake from the grocery store…. you get him a cake from a grocery store. He originally wanted a cake like one he saw at church during a marriage celebration with tiers and everything. But I’m not that good.
So we settled on this one. (But my cakes are much tastier than this cake)

He wanted to go to Mr. Gattis which is a pizza/arcade place. They even had bumper cars. I would have taken a picture but I was too busy riding them.

And he got the best gift from Grandma, “lasar tag” just like uncle Robs. He was most excited about this.
All in all it was a pretty good week.
Happy Birthday Landon.

I told Jeff today that I have not been committed to anything for 11 years. but 11 years ago today, I married the greatest man in the world. So, I got him some slippers to celebrate it. Because he’s worth it!

This post is dedicated to the one I love most. Happy Anniversary.
I LOVE YOU!

We had a snow day yesterday!

I got a call from a co-worker letting me know not to come into work friday but I did not bother to get out of bed at the time and see why. (however, I sort of figured there was snow because my co-workers don’t usually call me at weird hours telling me not to come in to work, not on purpose anyway plus the weatherman had been calling for snow all week long. I just really did not believe them.)

So when Hayden got out of bed around 8:30 am, I told him to look out the window. (note, I was still in bed also!)

at first he was a little unsure as to why I was asking him to look out the window, but then he saw snow. He instantly ran outside.
IN HIS PAJAMAS!

He immediately ran back inside letting me know “that snow is cold”

we are not equiped for snow days.

We don’t have proper gloves, hats, winter coats or boots. They usually are not needed out here. Winter is very short and fairly mild. Carley has on two different mittens and a baby hat.

in fact, all Landon could find was Jeff’s ski boots to keep his feet warm.

but we searched around and got dressed up and went out to play for a bit. By the time we got out there, the snow was already starting to melt. most of it would not make it through the day.

It was fluffy snow. Landon could not even make proper snowball. but he tried several times to get us with one.

Jeff had on his usual attire for winter. His wardrobe does not depend on the seasons. I am surprised he put on the jacket.

We finally upgraded our dining room furniture. We have grown out of the plastic party table and we found this puppy last night. This table has the ablility to seat 8 people. We don’t always need to seat 8 people but we always need to seat five.
The black chair is currently being refinished. That is why it is only half way done. We were testing out the color to make sure we liked it before we painted the other three black. But we think it will look nice with the dark mahogany table. We found it at Pier 1 imports last night. It was on sale and it was slightly damaged. So we did a bit of negotiating a got a great table at a great price. We now want to find at least two more chairs to go with it.

I just love to find mystery pictures on the camera! I think she likes it.

I am sitting at the computer feeling a bit chilled and browsing through the pictures I have uploaded on flickr. I could go and just get a blanket to warm up but while I browse but then I see these photos.

For one day we made it to the beach this year. Just one day! Boy was it hot that day. I remember having to drag that drink cooler from the car thinking to myself –why did I not get Jeff to do this job?

We stopped by gulf shores Alabama on our way home from a long trip to Tennessee. The beach is too much fun. I wish we could do it every year.

I don’t think Landon got out of the water for about 6 hours!

Perfect time for a nap.

but somehow Lightening McQueen got burried in the sand and did not make it home. It was too bad because we had fun playing hide n go seek in the car with him.

but I do not recommend going to the beach and watching “Shark week” on discovery at the same time.
And so now I am not feeling so chilled anymore. I hope we can go back to the beach again next year.

The weather is starting to turn cold now. I am not disappointed because I enjoy winter so much . It is my second favorite season after fall. I don’t like spring because that means summer is coming soon. Summer is number 4 on my list of favorites.
So we enjoyed our last days of mild temps outside.

The boys built a fort out of their pirate ship and then wanted to camp outside. They also wanted to charge Jeff $50 for a small stack of wood.
When questioned as to what they would do with the $50, they stated they could not tell me. Hmmmmm……..

Have a great weekend. See you again here soon.

I just love to go camping. I just love sleeping outside snuggled under warm sleeping bags, roasting marshmellows by the fire or taking long walks through the woods. Just thinking about camping makes me want to go camping. I love how the kids love to explore new lands and enjoying seeing new animals or bugs. It just makes me happy.
I decided to take the kids camping with a group from church. Jeff had to work and could not make it at the last minute but I braved spending the weekend alone with the children in a tent and set out for Ft. Davis Texas for some fun in the mountains.

Unfortunately, I ended up being so busy with the kids I forgot to take many pictures. I was so disappointed when I got home and found out I took only a few photos.

Hayden managed to take one of me on this same overlook. Hayden, Carley and I went out for a drive through the mountains trying to get Carley to take a nap. She really needed it and we acheived a bit a peace and quite while it we were cruising with the windows down, wind blowing through our hair, and feeling the cool breeze on our face. I would like to do that again.

While we were driving, Landon was taking a hike. He was begging me all weekend to go on a long hike. Well, I can take a two year old on a long hike. She could never walk that far and I forgot to bring the backpack to carry her in. (probably would not fit in the car anyway)
So I let him do a 3 mile hike with some friends from church.

Here he is coming down off the hike and finishing up. Everyone said they could not keep up with him. He really likes hiking.
He likes it so much that I would like to take him backpacking one day.
Landon was very disappointed that the camping trip was only a weekend trip. We left on Friday at lunch time and returned sunday afternoon. so i have already promised him that we will take a longer trip in the spring. I was thinking about New Mexico in the mountains!

You know this story is going to be good with title like that.
This also fits under the catagory of life lesson #4–never wear baggy shorts without a belt!
we were at the playground on sunday afternoon and Hayden decided that he wanted to stick his hands in my back pockets. Which was just fine except for the fact that this particular pair of shorts are a bit baggy on me and I really need a belt with them.
He decided to keep his hands in my pockets and drag his feet. which caused my pants (and underwear!) to drop. Rapidly. T.O.O. M.Y. K.N.E.E.S.
It took me a few moments to get his hands out of the pockets so I can pull them up. There were several other familys at the playground. Boy did they get sight! I hope they are not scarred for life.
But the funny thing is– a little boy that Landon was playing with wanted to know if we were coming back tomorrow. i asked him what time to come back. His mother said “I don’t think we will be coming back when they are here!” I don’t know if the mooning had anything to do with that comment but I have yet to see them at the playground since. Hmmmm……..
Toodles everyone. I am taking the kids camping this weekend to the Ft. Davis Mountains. I will be back on monday with the details.
