I am sitting at the computer feeling a bit chilled and browsing through the pictures I have uploaded on flickr. I could go and just get a blanket to warm up but while I browse but then I see these photos.

For one day we made it to the beach this year. Just one day! Boy was it hot that day. I remember having to drag that drink cooler from the car thinking to myself –why did I not get Jeff to do this job?

We stopped by gulf shores Alabama on our way home from a long trip to Tennessee. The beach is too much fun. I wish we could do it every year.

I don’t think Landon got out of the water for about 6 hours!

Perfect time for a nap.

but somehow Lightening McQueen got burried in the sand and did not make it home. It was too bad because we had fun playing hide n go seek in the car with him.

but I do not recommend going to the beach and watching “Shark week” on discovery at the same time.
And so now I am not feeling so chilled anymore. I hope we can go back to the beach again next year.

I just love to go camping. I just love sleeping outside snuggled under warm sleeping bags, roasting marshmellows by the fire or taking long walks through the woods. Just thinking about camping makes me want to go camping. I love how the kids love to explore new lands and enjoying seeing new animals or bugs. It just makes me happy.
I decided to take the kids camping with a group from church. Jeff had to work and could not make it at the last minute but I braved spending the weekend alone with the children in a tent and set out for Ft. Davis Texas for some fun in the mountains.

Unfortunately, I ended up being so busy with the kids I forgot to take many pictures. I was so disappointed when I got home and found out I took only a few photos.

Hayden managed to take one of me on this same overlook. Hayden, Carley and I went out for a drive through the mountains trying to get Carley to take a nap. She really needed it and we acheived a bit a peace and quite while it we were cruising with the windows down, wind blowing through our hair, and feeling the cool breeze on our face. I would like to do that again.

While we were driving, Landon was taking a hike. He was begging me all weekend to go on a long hike. Well, I can take a two year old on a long hike. She could never walk that far and I forgot to bring the backpack to carry her in. (probably would not fit in the car anyway)
So I let him do a 3 mile hike with some friends from church.

Here he is coming down off the hike and finishing up. Everyone said they could not keep up with him. He really likes hiking.
He likes it so much that I would like to take him backpacking one day.
Landon was very disappointed that the camping trip was only a weekend trip. We left on Friday at lunch time and returned sunday afternoon. so i have already promised him that we will take a longer trip in the spring. I was thinking about New Mexico in the mountains!

During our many travels this summer we did have a birthday. But I am afraid i failed to take any photos. I am not sure how that happened because I know I had the camera out taking pictures.

Little bit here did have her second birthday. Everyone came and had a good time. Although I did not have time to bake a cake, she did enjoy a store bought one and some ice cream. She even got a few presents from everyone.

she is getting ready for a boat ride with Grandpa Jimmy. She really likes boats!

Aunt Carol let us borrow her pop up camper for a few days while we were in Chattanooga. Although it did rain while we were there, we had fun any way.

This is lake off the Tennessee river and the camp ground was at Chester Frost Park just north of Chattanooga.

There were so many interesting things to get into and find there. Things that are just not found in West Texas. Like Snails!

The view from my chair was peaceful and relaxing.
I did have one funny moment. It was a short walk up a hill to the bathroom. I needed to use the rest room. I walked up the hill with Carley and Hayden (because I can’t leave those two alone). We finished up and then headed back down. No sooner than I sit down in my chair, Hayden says “I got to go to the bathroom!”
“But we were just up there, I asked you several times if you needed to go. Why did you not go while we were just up there?” Stupid questions on my part because a 4 year old does not have the answers to those questions.
So I sat in my chair and asked Landon to walk him up to the restroom. He had to go anyway also.
Off they go up the hill. I can see the restroom clearly from where I am sitting. I watch them go in. Several minutes go by.
Several more minutes go by.
I see landon come out & start coming back down the hill.
“Where is your brother?”
“I don’t know”
“You were suppose to walk him back from the bathroom also”
“Oh”
About that time I see Hayden coming out of the Bathroom completely in the BUFF! He comes out right in front of this red truck with some people sitting inside of it waiting for someone to come out of the shower. He is shaking his behind, sort of doing a little naked dance.
I grab Carley and head back up the hill. His little dance continues until I get close to the bathroom. As I walk past the truck, everyone in the truck is just dying laughing. All I could think of to says was “I am not sure when they learn the meaning of the word modesty.”

So we have a new superhero in the family.

Its supergirl. Sporting her cape and saving her brothers from future disasters.

.
Don’t get too close.. she does not have full control over those powers just yet and she may cry at any moment.

We spent the past week in Amarillo. While we there touring the big city, we decided to visit Palo Duro Canyon, which by the way, is the second largest canyon in the US and a short drive from Amarillo. So for mothers day we headed out for a day of hiking and Geocaching in the park.

Did you know that read men wear PINK! That is right and you heard it here first. When we arrived in
in Amarillo, it seems that I forgot that Amarillo is 250 miles north of Midland and it is in a different climate zone and …… I forgot to check the weather! It was cold. Or rather at least cool enough I needed a jacket. Well, at the beginning of May, in any town, it is quite difficult to find jackets of any type for any one and sometimes you just have to wear what you can find. So the boys got pink!
With stars and flowers!

Jeff is rarely cold. Sometimes I think he is like a cold blooded lizard and just adapts to his environment.

Palo Duro Canyon.

Hiking around and checking out some birds.

They just could not get enough it. The boys probably would have hiked and climbed all day!

Future naturalist right here!

And then we stumbled upon this giant piece of art work. Don’t ask me any questions about it because it was much too cold for me to even get out of the car.
Overall, we really enjoyed Amarillo and the Canyon was simply beautiful. Looking forward to going back again in the future.

We had one of those days on Saturday that can only be described as WOW, what a crazy day! It started out simple enough. Lots of activities planned for the Easter holiday and then the fun really started.
First on the list for the day was the 2009 Easter Egg Hunt.

Carley caught on really quick this year. It took her about 3 seconds to figure it out then she was off. She even spotted some of the harder ones for the boys.

This is what we made with the eggs after we were done hunting them. They were delicious.
Next up was the herb garden. The day really warmed up and we decided to go ahead and plant the herb garden in the front flower bed.

Jeff is tilling up the bed. The soil is rich and moist– just right for some tasty herbs. We decided to put the herbs in the front this year because herb plants are smaller then veggie plants and they don’t fair well when 3 year olds desperate for entertainment take a baseball bat to them. So they need to be out of direct reach.

Hayden was not so much into planting and he just wasted the day away in the pear tree.
Finally the day ended with a west Texas Snow Storm or better translated to a hail storm.

My precious new plants we attacked by the hail.

We had lots of marble & golf ball size hail. We had some lemon size and my neighbor took a picture of one tennis ball size hail.

We had two waves of the storm and during one of them:

you guessed it. Hail smashed our windsheild! and tomorrow we will have to drop a little cash getting it replaced.
West Texas can be so much fun some days.

The boys and I made Christmas cookies yesterday. Over at the Pioneer Woman she has a recipe for Christmas cookes. Her recipes are always so easy and I thought we would give it a try.

I found all these cookie cutters yesterday at Michaels for $6.00. I just had to have them.

I had a good feeling about this recipe when I saw the batter. It was light and fluffy and very tasty according the my three official taste testers

The cookies baked all baked up and waiting the be iced.

Icing and sprinkles in progress. I did not try pioneer womans egg yolk glaze for the coloring. I did use her white icing glaze and then added food coloring to those to get the desired colors.

Finished product! I must say I give this recipe a 5 star rating! We had a good time and the results were very tasty.

Jeff was playing hide and go seek with the boys outside in the dark.

He got himself stuck in a tree. ha ha ha ha ROFL ha ha ha

I would like to say I ran very quickly and grabbed my camera before he got down but truth be told I walked leisurely to get it. He was stuck up there for a while.
all he had to say: “it was easier getting up there.”
my response was, “do I need to get your ladder!”

We are coming down off the sugar high of halloween 2008 and I have pictures! It was a great day. We had a parade at school and once again we went to trunk or treat at Church. I just love trunk or treat. The church fills the parking lot with trucks and volunteers sit on the tailgates and pass out candy. The kids get to go from trunk to trunk– trick or treating. It is so much fun and less scary than going door to door. Here are the highlights:

Everyone loves a superhero!

Who does not love Bob the builder!

And Minni Mouse– precious! I made the ears but she only kept them on for about 30 seconds.

I am the pretty pretty princess today! I wanted to be Mrs. America but I just did not have any time to get something together. Same goes for the boys– you may remember these repeat costumes from years past but I just did not want to fork out $20 for each of them a costume that they wear a few times per year. So I told them we could get creative and make them something or they could dig through the dress up drawer and wear something we already have. Especially since Landon wanted to be superman again this year and Hayden wanted to be Batman (Which he was for 1/2 of the day until he pooped in the pants) So we switched to builder Bob which he really liked once I gave him a few tools to hold on to.

He is showing off his tools here.

She is already taking the ears off.

The night is just not complete without a romp through the bounce house.

Overall is was a really great night. I am already looking forward to next year!
Happy Halloween!

Do you want to know what we do for fun on Friday nights out here in west Texas? We kill flies!

Flies are really bad here lately, so everyone gets their own fly swatter and we see who can kill the most flies. I like to go behind everyone and hit the flies a second time just to make sure they are good and squooshed!
Landon: Armed and dangerous!

Don’t be fooled we did not go camping– we are just in the backyard.

Jeff purchased this fire pit for us to enjoy some fires outside this winter. Since it has been getting really cold at night for the past few weeks, we tried it out!

Jeff and Landon decided to pitch the tent and sleep out side. I just have a problem with sleeping in the backyard–why would I want to sleep in the backyard when my bed is just a few feet away? I could not do it– and Hayden fell asleep too soon also. Even Hobbes camped out.

Don’t you wish you could fit in a box sometimes?

I do, it just looks like so much fun.

Maybe it reminds them of being in the womb. I doubt it, but just a thought.

The pictures that need no comments.

I think I have discovered who keeps stealing my camera and taking pictures.

Midland is a small town of about 100,000. We don’t have anything fancy. No big museums, art galleries, opera houses, or broadway musicals. To enjoy some of these activities we have to drive six hours to Austin or Dallas or 9 hours to Houston. But about 8 years ago, someone had the bright idea to bring some of the “big city” activities to our small town.
Enter Midland College Performing Arts Series. Once a semester, they try to get a big show together for the public to enjoy and they offer it for FREE!
Last night, Jeff and I got to see the 3 Mo’ Divas. It is a “New Concert Smashing Musical Barriers.”These three ladies performed music from 10 different genres to include: opera, gospel, R&B, Blues, Jazz, Rock n roll, Disco plus others. They were classy and sassy. They had great style and the costumes were excellent. The lady leading the band and playing the piano was simply awesome! She knew how to tickle the ivorys and she was phenominal.
Now, I have seen many good broadway productions. I really enjoyed Riverdance and Les Miserables. And although I do not try to compare performances, I would say the 3 Mo’ Divas was one of the best performances I have ever seen. These ladies are awesome and their voices–simply wonderful. The music selection was delightful and fun. There was times I wanted to get up and dance.
If you get a chance to see the 3 Mo’ Divas don’t pass up the opportunity. Check them out and look up their performance dates at www.3modivas.com I guarentee you will NOT be disappointed.
