I have lived in Midland for 3 years now and I recently discovered there was a childrens museum.
It is part of the museum of the southwest which I have not been to but I am planning on visiting this spring sometime.

There were so many cool and fun things to there.

I just love new finds.

We got to look at some X rays of all sorts of different things.

We got to bounce around a soft area.

and crawl through a really long tunnel

Play dress up in the closet.

We got to sit on a giant hand and one of the most fun sections was this flying machine. Basically you were give a paper plate, coffee filter, paper cone cup and some tape and you were suppose to make some thing that could fly. And what you did was put it over the “wind”machine and turn it on and see if your design could fly. Landon had the best design.

there was so much to do at this museum. This is just a small sample of the many wonderful areas.

Carley and Hayden really enjoyed the turtle they had out front.

Landon really like the bear!

They had this really cool totem pole.

And no museum in Texas could be complete without a texas longhorn!

I am sitting at the computer feeling a bit chilled and browsing through the pictures I have uploaded on flickr. I could go and just get a blanket to warm up but while I browse but then I see these photos.

For one day we made it to the beach this year. Just one day! Boy was it hot that day. I remember having to drag that drink cooler from the car thinking to myself –why did I not get Jeff to do this job?

We stopped by gulf shores Alabama on our way home from a long trip to Tennessee. The beach is too much fun. I wish we could do it every year.

I don’t think Landon got out of the water for about 6 hours!

Perfect time for a nap.

but somehow Lightening McQueen got burried in the sand and did not make it home. It was too bad because we had fun playing hide n go seek in the car with him.

but I do not recommend going to the beach and watching “Shark week” on discovery at the same time.
And so now I am not feeling so chilled anymore. I hope we can go back to the beach again next year.

During our many travels this summer we did have a birthday. But I am afraid i failed to take any photos. I am not sure how that happened because I know I had the camera out taking pictures.

Little bit here did have her second birthday. Everyone came and had a good time. Although I did not have time to bake a cake, she did enjoy a store bought one and some ice cream. She even got a few presents from everyone.

she is getting ready for a boat ride with Grandpa Jimmy. She really likes boats!

Aunt Carol let us borrow her pop up camper for a few days while we were in Chattanooga. Although it did rain while we were there, we had fun any way.

This is lake off the Tennessee river and the camp ground was at Chester Frost Park just north of Chattanooga.

There were so many interesting things to get into and find there. Things that are just not found in West Texas. Like Snails!

The view from my chair was peaceful and relaxing.
I did have one funny moment. It was a short walk up a hill to the bathroom. I needed to use the rest room. I walked up the hill with Carley and Hayden (because I can’t leave those two alone). We finished up and then headed back down. No sooner than I sit down in my chair, Hayden says “I got to go to the bathroom!”
“But we were just up there, I asked you several times if you needed to go. Why did you not go while we were just up there?” Stupid questions on my part because a 4 year old does not have the answers to those questions.
So I sat in my chair and asked Landon to walk him up to the restroom. He had to go anyway also.
Off they go up the hill. I can see the restroom clearly from where I am sitting. I watch them go in. Several minutes go by.
Several more minutes go by.
I see landon come out & start coming back down the hill.
“Where is your brother?”
“I don’t know”
“You were suppose to walk him back from the bathroom also”
“Oh”
About that time I see Hayden coming out of the Bathroom completely in the BUFF! He comes out right in front of this red truck with some people sitting inside of it waiting for someone to come out of the shower. He is shaking his behind, sort of doing a little naked dance.
I grab Carley and head back up the hill. His little dance continues until I get close to the bathroom. As I walk past the truck, everyone in the truck is just dying laughing. All I could think of to says was “I am not sure when they learn the meaning of the word modesty.”

We decided to camping over spring break this year and it was action packed.

First of all we stopped in a small town just east of Midland for some lunch. and look what we saw at the burger king playground

See those boots. There are metal spurs attached to them. There was a little boy wearing spurs and climbing on the playground set. Funny thing is, we talked with his parents and they were oblivious when we pointed them out and possibly how inappropriate they are in a childrens playground area. This is getting filed under things you will only see in west Texas. By the looks of those boots, I think he wears them often.

We made a trip up to marble falls to the Sweet Berry Farms to pick our own strawberries.

This was our loot. Not too much. We were about a week late or a week early. since we did not get to the farm until Friday, most of the really good strawberries were already picked. But there was a new batch just coming up that would have been ready in about a week but we could not come back then. So we search hard and this is what we came up with. I got 6 small jars of strawberry jam out of it. Not too bad and I will enjoy eating it very soon.

You know, I would have taken some pictures of Landon but i could not get him to be still long enough.

They had homemade strawberry popsicles and Carley was really enjoying hers.

We had a great time. We actually did other things but I did not take any more pictures for some reason. Hmmmm. Anyway, If you are in Texas you should make plans to go by the Sweet Berry Farms for some yummy goodness.
Have a good weekend! I will be be back soon.

We are back from the beautiful South Padre Island Texas.

In my opinion, South Padre has the nicest beaches in Texas. (just overlook that sea weed) Plus it is only 690 miles or 10.5 hours away!

We did so much in 4 1/2 days it is hard to fit it all in one blog post.
Landon only got out of the water for about 5 minutes to shove a sandwich down his throat.

Everyone was having a good time.
I won two tickets to the local water park, Schlitterbahn, and we had a blast.

Kite Flying
You can’t go to the beach without flying a kite. After our last experience, we thought we would try again.

Success is easy on the beach with that steady ocean breeze.

Sea Turtles Inc.

Near our hotel was Sea Turtles Inc. A sea turtle rescue/rehab organization dedicated to the most beautiful creatures to inhabit our oceans. They have several sea turtles to see that could not be returned to the wild.

I think I found a new love.

These guys are just precious.

Silly Pirates

This picture needs no comment! Jeff makes a lousy pirate.

I put up a few more pictures over at flickr. Just click on 2008 saddletrip photos to see a few more. I will post more pictures throughout the next week.
We normally make it to the beach about every other year. We had such a good time on this trip we are going to try and make it annually from here on out. The kids had so much fun.

Look out South Padre, we are headed your way. Armed with several pairs of swim trucks and a mountain of sun block. We are ready for some beach time. I am just thinking about all the fun we are going to be having: playing in the waves, building sand castles, throwing frisbee, collecting sea shells, or just napping in the sun.
So for all my regular readers, I will be gone for the next week. I am not taking my computer with me. I am leaving it all behind for rest and relaxation. But when i return, we will have lots to share about the trip and hopefully many, many pictures.
Enjoy your week. While you are at it, why don’t you tell me what kind of vacation you are going to take this year.

Beautiful West Texas Sunset!
February 5th, 2008

::Don’t these enchillatas look good.
:: On another note, We are leaving on saturday to spend a few weeks in Chattanooga.

I would say I am ready to leave but…….

I am having trouble getting moving. There is just so much to do these days. But I a looking forward to seeing Jeff’s family and few friends while I am there. If you are on my list to visit, I can’t wait to see you.
For those of you who don’t know the cat, that is Tigger. I got Tigger in July of 1997 from Jeff’s cousin. He is the best cat ever. Lovable and friendly. I must say though, he has been very very sick in the last few months and has lost a tremendous amount of weight. What use to be a 20 pound cat is down to 7 pounds. For a cat, thats an extreme difference. The vet could not find anything wrong with him, so hopefully he will be feeling better soon.

::Question: what do you get when the weather turns cold and two little boys are cooped up in the house for two days?
::Answer: One Crazy Mama!
::Cure: The Wiggles Playland

The day after thanksgiving we just had to get out of the house and let the boys burn some energy so Mama and Grandma would not go crazy. So we went to Frisco Texas to the one and only (here in America anyway) Wiggles Playland.

::There was a bounce house

:: And some slides

::Go Hayden Go!

:: Finally, all tired. Lets go home for a nap.

The boys like nothing better than playing in a giant sand box. About 50 miles west of Midland is the Monahans Sand Dunes State Park. We went sand surfing. We had to hike up to the top of a dune and then slide down on a plastic disc. The dunes were formed between 5000 and 7000 years ago and extend about 200 miles through west Texas. It was very interesting topography and jeff and I spotted a bird we had never seen before, the Cactus Wren. This is definately a place I will visit again.
